Thanks Dominic!

This Saturday 12th November the Renault Car Club of Australia is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a ‘Cavalcade of Renaults’ at Peter Warren Renault, Hume Highway Warwick Farm, commencing at 9.30am until 2.30 pm.

The club was formed in 1951 by a group of Renault 750 enthusiasts and the club has continued to cater for owners of the quirky French cars up to the present day including the popular Megane models (not least the stunning RenaultSport Megane

Early RCCA outing

The display will include a beautiful 1908 ‘AX’ Renault, along with a special display of over 30 lovingly restored and maintained Renaults sold in Australia over the past 60 years (along with a few very special imported models such as the infamous rally-inspired Renault 5 Turbo and Alpine A110).

Everyone knows someone who had a Renault in the 1970’s and 80’s, with the popular R10, Car of the Year R12 and R16 giving faithful service to thousands of Australians who wanted something a little more sophisticated then the Holdens of the day. And for those who wanted to go racing or just own something really special, the famous ‘Gordini’ models were the giant killers of the day.

Those who have followed motorsport over the past 60 years will have seen Renaults racing at Bathurst in the 1960’s, and competing in a host of trials and rallies in the 1970’s in the hands of Renault Club members.

More recently the ‘naughties’ has seen a resurgence of performance Renaults with a series of award winning RenaultSport hot hatches which have built up a cult following, and once again offer style with safety and performance.

All these cars and more, will be on display at Peter Warren’s Renault dealership on Saturday.

So if you have a old Renault or even a new one and want to come and see a great selection of cars come an bring the family for a look.

Peter Warren Renault will be looking after us with a free sausage sizzle …and they also have a nice cafe on site.

The RCCA hopes to see you there.

Special Feature – 60 Years of the RCCA

RCCA AGM — 5th September 2011

Thanks Mr Secretary for your immortal words:-

OK, you can all come out of hibernation as spring has sprung.  Monday night is Renault night.  As usual, we shall start on time with the General Meeting first followed by a break at which light refreshments will be served including the responsible service of light beer and wine, followed by the AGM.

Now don’t be frightened by the AGM.  No one gets their arm twisted (much) to serve in a position but, as usual, all positions will be declared vacant and voting will then take place.  If you want to change something about the club or the way things are run, the AGM is the time to state your claim to a position.  We need volunteers as usual and whilst some positions mean work, there are lots of positions that don’t mean much work at all.  As you know, we always seem to get a good number of volunteers to help with our our ‘khana’ events for which we are very grateful.

Our 60th Anniversary Committee shall remain the same as previously elected.

I shall be glad if someone steps forward to do the Social Sec position (although I am vain enough to like the photo of myself in the mag – thanks Bob!)

Shannon's Eastern Creek Classic 2011

The RCCA, celebrating its 60 years of incorporation, was granted a special area in the pits for a number of its member’s cars.  The day remained quite pleasant despite a forecast of rain and there was a good turnout of members.  Celebrations were also for the E-Type (50 years), the Volvo P1800 , (50 years) and Chevrolet (100 years) .

National Motoring Heritage Day – 15th May

An RCCA/ROCC event

Meet at Berry on the South Coast.

We will be meeting our Canberra friends at the village where many clubs will rendezvous for a mini car show.

There are plenty of distractions at Berry for those who are not car minded!

It is expected a lot of older cars will be on the road.  We are going to meet at Loftus Oval which is on the left hand side heading south out of Sydney.  There is a toilet there however it may not be open so you may want to stop at the McDonalds just before or the Shell garage.

We intend leaving at 10am.

We shall make our way down south via the Freeway to Berry, probably without stopping, unless someone is desperate.  We shall not be tearing down (unless the faster cars wish to go ahead) so that our more sedate cars can keep up.  At Berry we shall be looking for the Berry Memorial Park which, I think, is the 3rd left turn on reaching Berry down Albany Street.  No doubt there will be signs.

At Berry we are hoping to meet up with a contingent from Canberra led by the one and only Barry McAdie.

It is suggested that  you take a warm jacket and chairs and may be your own lunch but if you don’t take the latter, there should  be plenty of eating places within a short walk of where we shall be parked.  Afterwards, please feel free to return to Sydney whenever you like and by what route you like.
